SURROUNDING AREA

EXPLORE the TARENTAISE VALLEY

Aime, the pretty market town at the bottom of the valley; why not visit the market held every Thursday from 0700 - 1300.

Base de Loisirs (also known as Versant d'Aime Leisure Park) is a short drive from Aime in the Valley.  A great day out with load of activities to enjoy including a picnic area, beach, lake with kayaking and paddle boats, aqua boule, high ropes, table tennis tables, volleyball, boules and a children's playground and a fabulous newly installed water playground the kids will love!

We have spent many summer days enjoying the activities on offer. There are free BBQ pits for you to use, so we often take a picnic for lunch and then spend the evening  BBQ-ing hot dog sausages; a great way to end the day!

Bourg-Saint-Maurice sits at the end of the Valley, a larger town with a number of shops, cafe's and restaurants for you to discover.  On the outskirts of BSM is a superb Canoe-Kayak Centre which regularly hosts Regional and National events.

There are a number of water based activities available on the Isère River such as white water rafting, hydro speed, canyoning and canoeing.  The two Companies operating close by are:

There is an excellent cycle path that runs from Bourg-Saint-Maurice to Aime and tracks the L'Isère River. We have cycled this route many times; it's a lovely gentle ride and with a cafe and ice cream shop at the Canoe Centre on the edge of Bourg it's a great place to stop for a well-earned rest!

Peisey Nancroix and the Vanoise National Park

One of our favourite places in the area!  Situated in the valley between La Plagne and Les Arcs is Peisey-Nancroix.  After a stunning drive (with a few hairpin bends) you will arrive at the Peisey-Nancroix plateau with ample free parking adjacent to the Rosuel Refuge.  There you will find a lake and picnic area with boule and bbq pits.  There is a Via Ferrata about 5-10 minutes walk from the car park.  A number of walks start from the plateau, you can walk up to Lac de La Plagne and have lunch at the Refuge d'Entre Le Lac or even book to stay overnight and enjoy a rustic 3 course dinner.

One of our favourite restaurants is in Peisey-Nancroix-Nancroix; Le Petit Hibou is run by husband and wife team, Dave and Caz, this delightful restaurant offers superb food in a fabulous location.  A perfect place to enjoy delicious locally sourced produce, an exciting menu offering guests something a little different to the local Savoyard fare.

Take a beautifully scenic drive to Sainte Foy, through Bourg-Saint-Maurice, and enjoy a lovely lunch in this charming village. We often stop at Restaurant Le Monal, but there are a number of restaurants to choose from.

Another of our favourite days out, Lac d'Annecy is a beautiful lake that nestles among snow capped mountains approximately 2 hours away.  Medieval Annecy sits at the north of the Lake, dubbed the “Venice of the Alps”, the winding cobblestone streets of the Vieille Ville, or old town, are lined by pastel houses and bright flower boxes that will make you fall in love with this small French town. Stop for a croissant at a boulangerie, or sit and have ice cream at one of the town’s many gelaterias and spend the afternoon people-watching and admiring the architecture.  With stunning views across the lake, drive along the shores to Annecy itself and enjoy a delicious lunch in one of the many restaurants to choose from in this wonderful medieval town.  A perfect opportunity to dress up for the day.

When visiting in summer, there are plenty of sandy or grassy beaches dotted along the picturesque lake. A swim in the refreshing, crystal-clear water serves as a perfect opportunity to relax and take in the remarkable views that Annecy has to offer.

Hugely popular is the cycle route around the Lac offering cyclists spectacular views.  The 40km route is dotted with lovely cafes for those who wish to take in the views and enjoy a slower pace.  There are many cycle hire shops around the lake and we are happy to make recommendations for you.

Annecy, from the farmer’s market of Au Rendez-Vous du Terroir (Tuesday through Saturday) to the Old Town Market on the Rue Sainte-Claire (Tuesday, Friday and Sunday), has various markets on throughout the week selling an array of fresh foods and market wares. The Sunday Annecy market is one of the finest markets in France, with its colourful stalls lining the old town’s streets and canals.

Overlooking the city, the medieval Château d’Annecy, once home to the Counts of Geneva, contains a museum with regional artifacts such as Alpine furniture and religious art, plus a natural history exhibit.

Perched high up on the banks of the Arly river is the pretty medieval town of Conflans.   A district of Albertville where time seems to stand still, it boasts a number of lovely restaurants and shops for day trippers to enjoy.  Visitors can take in the stunning views overlooking the valley and there are a number of walks around the local Savoie vineyards for those who are a little more adventurous.
