CAR HIRE

Car Hire for groups is a cost-effective way to get to the resort. It is an easy drive from each of the airports, largely on motorways.

If you are planning to hire a car from Geneva we recommend you hire your car from the French side of the airport.  In July 2015 the EU introduced legislation pertaining to people who drive foreign cars from outside the EU. The legislation affects customers driving rental cars from Switzerland in to any neighbouring EU country, including hire cars for holidays - in recent years there have been reports that hire car companies are stopping tourists driving Swiss cars over the border. There are also reports of individuals having their hire car seized and given large fines as a result of the legislation. We recommend you check with your hire car company as to the latest rules, particularly with the United Kingdom leaving the European Union.

Ensure that your hire car has snow chains. Whilst carrying snow chains is not mandatory in the French Alps, you can be fined and denied access to the mountains if you do not have them.

COACH / BUS / TAXI

You can reach Plagne 1800 and Plagne Montalbert by coach, bus and taxi.   There are a number of operators and pre-booking is essential during peak periods.

We have forged close links with Spitting Feathers Airport Transfers who are an excellent company based in La Plagne, run by British husband and wife team Tim and Anna, guests last season booked them and were highly complimentary and we thoroughly recommend them too.  Click the button which will take you to their website.

We recently met a lovely British guy called Kris who runs a transfer company called UP-BUS, he has been recommended to us by friends who live locally.  Kris has lived in the La Plagne area for over 15 years and has been providing transfers for much of that time.

As well as working the winter season, they also provide transport for cyclists in the summer who wish to cycle further afield!

JB Taxis, also based in La Plagne is another excellent transfer company we recommend.  Guests also used them last season and were very happy with them.  They have a 19 seater coach ideal for groups booking the whole chalet who need a transfer.  A good friend of ours who is English works in the office and occasionally drives too.

Other Companies guests have also used are Ben's Bus, Cool Bus and Altibus.  We have also used them in the past and thoroughly recommend them.

BY TRAIN

Unfortunately in the wake of COVID-19, Eurostar have decided not to run their ski trains during the 2020-21 winter season. However, you will be able to book an indirect trip to the Alps on their website from October - this would mean taking a Eurostar train to France and changing onto an SNCF train for the rest of the journey.

Further information can be found at: https://www.eurostar.com/rw-en/train/france/ski-train

If you arrive at Geneva Airport you can take the train to Moutiers or Aime and get a Taxi to La Plagne.

BY CAR

La Plagne is approximately 600 miles from Calais, which is about a 9-10 hour drive, though this can be much longer at peak times; the drive is straight forward and almost exclusively on motorways.  To break up your journey you could stop off in Reims or Burgundy, which we have occasionally done, and there are also many budget hotels along the route.  Allow approximately €150 for motorway tolls.

You may wish to consider purchasing a motorway toll tag allowing you to drive through the priority lanes at the tolls.  We have found it invaluable, and can take hours of your journey at peak times. If you travel through the night you don’t have to wake your passenger up to pay the toll.  The tag is available at this link: https://www.emovis-tag.co.uk.

There is parking available for 2-3 cars on the driveway at Chalet Marmotte, with public parking also available close by.  There is ample parking in the car park immediately adjacent to La Bergerie.

In the majority of cases, parking is free across La Plagne, but do check as there are occasional charges in Plagne Centre, as an example.
